3 Ways Your Online Store Can Reduce Shopping Cart Abandonment

09/10/2017 | Share:

If you’re an ecommerce business owner looking to reduce shopping cart abandonment, in this blog we look at 3 straight forward ways you can encourage shoppers to complete their online purchase.

1. Clearly display internet security badges

If a potential customer has not purchased anything from your online store before, they need to know your ecommerce business is genuine.

Therefore one simple way you can create a sense of trust, and reassure shoppers your ecommerce business is not a criminal front. So by clearly displaying the official logo of the internet security company that guarantees and processes payments for your online store on your ecommerce site and the shopping cart page (for example Norton Secured).

2. Save the shopping cart

It’s amazing how many online retailers clear out a customer’s shopping cart after only 45 minutes. However due to the ease of internet shopping, potential customers have now evolved into comparison shoppers.

This means consumers are happy to open up a bunch of browser windows on their device, and then take the time to check out the pricing and delivery details of a number of retailers. However on returning to a retailers website, what they don’t want to find is an empty shopping cart (We’re talking to you Debenhams), as this is not only very frustrating for a consumer but also puts them off comparing your online store’s pricing again.

Instead allow a shoppers cart to save. A budget conscious shopper may take a few days to think about a product, or even wait until payday to complete their purchase. So make sure when they return, the items in their cart are still there. Plus it also gives you a reason to retarget potential customers with a promotion, and allow you to monitor any products which are frequently left in a cart or on a customers product wish list.

3. Speed up the checkout process

Even though a consumer can spend hours researching a product, when it comes to completing the transaction, they want the process to be as speedy and gratifying as possible.

As a result, one of the best ways to reduce shopping cart abandonment is by seriously streamlining the checkout process. So this may not be the best time to ask a customer to sign up to your email newsletter or recommend a friend.
Therefore consider reducing the number of pages a shopper has to complete to make a purchase and see if your payment gateway system is able to remember a customer’s details, so any future transactions can be completed in just a few clicks.

So there you have it, by streamlining the checkout process and making it easy for a shopper to trust and engage with your ecommerce business, you can reduce shopping cart abandonment and accelerate your sales.
