Top 3 Marketing Channels for E-commerce Businesses

03/01/2017 | Share:

If you’re looking to grow your e-commerce business this year there are a number of approaches you can take. However, not all are as effective as others. We take a look at the three most influential and successful ones which will help you generate site traffic and increase sales.

1: Email Marketing

Research from the Direct Marketing Association suggests that the ROI from email marketing can be an astonishing 4,300%, with up to 60% of people signing up to emails lists to receive special offers and 70% using discount coupons they receive in emails.

Email is also a great way to share content such as articles, news or giveaways. Additionally, customers are not deterred by simple ads within emails and an automated email campaign, generated via specialist marketing software, is a highly-effective way to use the information you have about your customers (with their permission, of course) to interact directly with them.

2: Social Media

Your customers are probably already on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest so capitalise on their presence by encouraging them to ‘like’ and ‘follow’ you. By doing so, you’ll be building trust, respect and brand recognition for your e-commerce business as well as humanising and personalising it.

Highlight the positives of your e-commerce business, such as any charitable links you may have (perhaps you donate a percentage of your profits to a good cause?), to demonstrate that you share similar values to your customers, and create a community of like-minded people who enjoy connecting and interacting with you.

3: Search Engine Optimisation

SEO is an extremely useful tool for bringing your content to the forefront of search engines, thus making your e-commerce business more visible to potential customers. Over 90% of people use search engines to discover products, services or websites, so ensuring that your SEO is up to scratch is vital.

Take time to look at your keyword research, using on- and off- page optimisation equally, and use linkable asset creation as well as organic link building to maximise your visibility to Google users.

Marketing has changed beyond recognition over the last ten years. Today’s e-commerce entrepreneurs have a wealth of choice when it comes to promoting their business digitally, with all that entails; cost saving, time efficiency and revenue generating.
