How to Build a Brand on Twitter

01/05/2018 | Share:

Some of you may already have a Twitter account for your business, others may be starting a new business from scratch and looking for some advice. In this blog we take a look at 4 key factors that will help you grow your business and create a recognisable brand on Twitter.

Account set up

Let’s start at the beginning. Setting up a Twitter account is free, but for it to be worth your time, you need to get the basics right. The most important thing is your username. If possible always use the name of your business or the name you use on your other social accounts. This way potential customers will be able to find your account easily.

It’s also important that you use the same profile picture across all your social channels, again this allows your customers to recognise and be familiar with your business.

Your Twitter bio needs to reflect your brand. What does your business do? What does it stand for? What do you tweet about? Think about the tone of voice you use here as this may be the first thing people see. You need to not only be informative, you also need to sell the personality of your brand. Make sure you include a link to your website too so you can drive traffic to your ecommerce site.

Brand awareness

So you’ve set up your account. Your profile picture looks great, your bio is perfect and you’re ready to go. The most effective way of increasing your brand awareness is by being active. You should be posting 1 or 2 times a day. This could be anything from sharing a blog post, product-related content or simply retweeting someone else’s tweet.

By being active, people will begin to recognise your business. Make sure you are following relevant people in your industry, using appropriate hashtags (1 or 2 per tweet max.) and engaging with your customers on a daily basis.

Consistency

One of the most important factors for building a recognisable brand on Twitter is consistency. Once you have decided on your business’ unique tone of voice and visual style, stick to it, and use it across every aspect of your business. Not only does this allow customers to recognise your branding and connect with it, it will set you apart from your competitors and give you credibility.

However, being consistent doesn’t have to be boring. Although you should stay on brand and relevant, you should keep your posts varied. Post videos, blogs, images, polls. There are so many ways to engage with your followers. Make sure you monitor what type of posts land well with your audience and give them what they want.

Customer service

As your business grows, you will find more people will reach out to you with complaints or questions. This is inevitable. Make sure you respond to all issues, comments and questions to show that you care about your customers. Again, It’s important that when you are responding to these queries, you stay on brand. Use your tone of voice and create a persona, perhaps give them a name, so the customer feels like they are engaging with a person rather than a machine.

By creating a consistent, recognisable brand on Twitter for your business, it will not only encourage potential consumers to connect with you, it will also help your business grow and set you apart from your competitors.
