How to launch an ecommerce business without leaving your 9-5

02/12/2018 | Share:

Whether you want to leave your 9-5 or are simply doing as a hobby, starting an ecommerce business can be daunting. You finish work, you commute home in rush hour and then all you want to do is collapse in front of the TV. It seems impossible to fit in launching an ecommerce business, but it’s not.

In this blog, we take a look at a couple of things you can do to achieve your goal without wearing yourself out!

Don’t skip a day

As already mentioned, some days you just don’t want to do anything. Your 9-5 may be stressful or you may have just had a rubbish day, but the main thing to keep in mind is your end goal. If you get home and suddenly find its 11 pm and you haven’t done anything, read a page of a book, write a draft for a product description. Even doing something tiny like sending an email on your lunch break, anything you can do towards setting up your business will make you feel 10 times less guilty than if you were to do nothing.

Be organised

Your time is limited so you have to use it wisely. Get your self a diary or a calendar and give yourself a couple of goals a week to complete.

Another great tip is to constantly have a notebook (or an app) on you where you can take notes of any ideas you may have while on the go. This can be great for looking back at ideas when you come to brainstorming.

Finally, if you have a lot to do, set yourself a time limit. If a task is likely to take you 10 minutes, set a timer on your phone. That way you can clearly see the best way to manage your free time and a time limit will prevent you from being indecisive or procrastinating.

Ask for help

Asking for help can be one of the best things you can do. Although you may want to be able to accomplish it on your own, sometimes asking for a helping hand can really take some of the stress off. This could be anything from asking your sister to walk the dog on a morning do you can have a spare 15 minutes, to outsourcing work like logo design or website build. Some bigger tasks can be very time consuming and you may not have the ability to complete them. Outsourcing work, although it can cost you more money, it will definitely be worth it in the long run.

Take it slow

The last bit of advice is to take it slow. You have dedicated time and money, maybe sweat and tears into the launch of your ecommerce business so you want it to be right. The last thing you want is to have rushed the website build or product research and get in wrong. Don’t be too harsh on yourself if you don’t meet your deadline, everything you can do towards launching your ecommerce site helps and you will eventually get there.
