Fulfilment Company Yorkshire: Why a Yorkshire 3PL Can Serve the Whole UK
23/09/2026 | Share:
If you search for a fulfilment company, most of what comes back is either a national brand with a warehouse you will never see, or a Midlands operator selling you the idea that anything outside the “golden triangle” is too far away. Neither tells you much about whether a provider will actually get your orders out the door correctly, on time, every day.
This guide is for two kinds of brand. The first is based in Yorkshire or the North and wants a fulfilment partner close enough to visit, drop stock into and hold to account in person. The second is based anywhere in the UK and is weighing up whether a Yorkshire 3PL can deliver the same next-day service as a provider in Leicestershire or Northamptonshire. The short answer to the second question is yes. The longer answer, below, explains why, and what to check before you sign with any fulfilment company, in Yorkshire or elsewhere.
Ogden Fulfilment has been trading from the Aire Valley since the 1870s, when Joseph Ogden founded a wool business in Haworth. Five generations later, the family business runs three fulfilment sites in Keighley, Saltaire and Skipton, handles around 850,000 orders a year and works with more than 140 client brands. That background shapes the practical detail in this guide.
What a Yorkshire fulfilment company does
A fulfilment company (also called a 3PL, or third-party logistics provider) stores your stock and handles everything that happens after a customer clicks “buy”: receiving and booking in stock, storing it, picking and packing each order, handing it to a courier, and processing returns. If you are new to the model, our guide to what a 3PL is covers the basics.
A Yorkshire fulfilment company does exactly the same job as one in the Midlands or the South East. The difference is where your stock sits, what that means for cost and access, and the kind of business you are dealing with. For most e-commerce brands, the core services are:
- Goods-in and storage – booking stock in against your SKUs, with shelf, bay and pallet storage depending on product size.
- Pick and pack fulfilment – every order picked, checked and packed to your specification, from single items to multi-line orders and kitted bundles.
- Dispatch through the major carriers – Royal Mail, DPD, DHL and Parcelforce, chosen to suit parcel size, speed and cost.
- Marketplace and store integrations – Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, TikTok Shop and more, connected through the Mintsoft warehouse management system (see our integrations).
- Returns, stock control and reporting – returns inspected and restocked or quarantined, with live stock levels visible to you.
Does location matter? The “golden triangle” question
The ONS describes the Midlands “golden logistics triangle” around Magna Park in Lutterworth as being within a four-hour drive of 90% of the British population. That is why so many large distribution centres sit there. For a supermarket or a retailer running its own lorries to stores, it matters a great deal.
For parcel-based e-commerce fulfilment, it matters much less. Here is why.
Parcels travel through courier networks, not direct routes
When a courier collects from a fulfilment warehouse, your parcel does not drive directly to the customer. It goes to a local depot, is trunked overnight to a national hub, sorted, and sent on to the delivery depot nearest the customer. That network runs overnight whether the parcel started in Leicestershire or West Yorkshire. A next-day service from a Yorkshire warehouse reaches the same UK mainland postcodes as a next-day service from the Midlands, with the usual exceptions (parts of the Scottish Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland and some offshore postcodes) applying to both.
The cut-off time matters more than the postcode
What actually decides whether your customer gets their order tomorrow is the time the warehouse stops accepting orders for same-day dispatch, and whether it hits that cut-off every day. A Midlands 3PL with an 11am cut-off gives your customers less time to order than a Yorkshire 3PL with a 1pm cut-off, regardless of geography. Ogden dispatches orders placed before 1pm on weekdays the same working day, and orders placed before 11:30am on Saturdays and Sundays, from a warehouse that runs seven days a week. More on this in our next-day fulfilment guide.
Where location does make a difference
Location still matters in some situations, and it is worth being honest about them:
- Pallet and B2B deliveries into retailer distribution centres. Full-pallet and trade deliveries go by road, so distance to the destination affects cost and lead time.
- Inbound stock from your supplier. If your goods land at a northern port (such as Immingham, Hull or Liverpool) or are made in the North, a Yorkshire warehouse is closer to the start of the journey.
- Your own access. If you want to visit, drop off stock, collect samples or bring your team in for a photo shoot, a warehouse an hour away is very different from one four hours away.
Why brands choose a Yorkshire 3PL
You can see the operation for yourself
A large share of fulfilment problems only come to light once a brand is live. The easiest way to reduce that risk is to walk the warehouse before you sign: see how stock is labelled, how pick faces are laid out, what the packing benches look like at 11am on a Monday. For brands in Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, York, Sheffield or Harrogate, a Yorkshire 3PL is close enough to do that without losing a whole day. We cover this in more depth for brands based in Leeds and Bradford and for brands in Manchester and the North West.
Direct access to the people running it
National fulfilment brands often route clients through an account management layer that sits well away from the warehouse floor. A family-run Yorkshire fulfilment company tends to be flatter: the people answering your email are close to the people packing your orders. Ogden commits to responding to clients within two hours, seven days a week.
Cost that reflects the region
Fulfilment pricing is driven by labour, space and packaging. A provider that is not carrying the overheads of a flagship national site or a venture-backed growth plan can often pass that through as simpler pricing. Ogden works with no minimum order volumes, which suits growing brands that do not yet fit the thresholds set by larger providers. For a transparent view of what fulfilment should cost, see our UK fulfilment pricing breakdown.
Room to grow
Multi-site operators can move a client’s stock or overflow as volumes grow without the brand having to change provider. Ogden’s three sites give around 160,000 sq ft of storage between them, which leaves headroom for seasonal peaks and for brands scaling from a few hundred to many thousands of orders a month.
Yorkshire 3PL vs other UK fulfilment options

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Next-day parcel reach | UK mainland via courier networks | UK mainland via courier networks | UK mainland via courier networks | Depends on your own courier accounts |
| Latest same-day cut-off | 1pm weekdays, 11:30am weekends (Ogden) | Varies – ask | Varies – often earlier for smaller clients | Limited by your own staffing |
| Weekend dispatch | Yes, 7 days (Ogden) | Varies | Often extra cost | Rarely |
| Minimum volumes | None (Ogden) | Varies | Often a monthly minimum | N/A |

Who Yorkshire fulfilment suits best
A Yorkshire fulfilment company is a strong fit if you are:
- A northern brand outgrowing the spare room or small unit, wanting a provider you can visit and speak to directly.
- A D2C brand anywhere in the UK that cares about packing quality and customer experience more than about having a household-name logistics logo on your slide deck.
- A marketplace seller needing reliable weekend dispatch for Amazon, eBay or TikTok Shop performance metrics. See our Amazon fulfilment service for Prime-standard dispatch.
- A brand with stock arriving through northern ports or from UK manufacturers in the North.
- A brand leaving a larger provider after service slipped as they became a smaller fish in a bigger pond.
It may be less suitable if your business is mainly full-pallet deliveries to southern retailer distribution centres, where road distance adds real cost. In that case, a split model or a Midlands partner may make more sense, and a good fulfilment company will tell you so.
How to choose a fulfilment company in Yorkshire
Every provider looks similar on a website. Use these checks to separate them:
- Visit the site you will actually be stored in, not a showroom site.
- Ask for the cut-off time in writing, including weekends and bank holidays, and ask how often it was missed last peak.
- Ask how pick accuracy is measured. Ogden reports order accuracy of 99%+; any credible provider should give a figure and explain how it is tracked.
- Check the integrations with your specific store and marketplaces before you commit.
- Get an all-in cost per order, including packaging, courier and any storage, rather than a headline pick fee.
- Ask who you will speak to when something goes wrong, and how quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Can a Yorkshire fulfilment company deliver next day across the UK?
Yes. Parcels are collected by national couriers and routed through their overnight hub networks, so a next-day service from Yorkshire reaches the same UK mainland postcodes as a next-day service from the Midlands. The same-day dispatch cut-off time has more effect on delivery speed than the warehouse’s postcode.
Is fulfilment cheaper in Yorkshire than in the Midlands?
It can be, but it depends more on the provider than the region. Labour, space and packaging drive fulfilment costs, and a provider without national-brand overheads can often offer simpler pricing. Compare an all-in cost per order, not headline pick fees.
Do I need to be based in Yorkshire to use a Yorkshire 3PL?
No. Brands from across the UK use Yorkshire fulfilment companies. Being nearby makes site visits and stock drop-offs easier, but stock can be delivered from anywhere by courier, pallet network or container.
What is the order cut-off time at Ogden Fulfilment?
Orders placed before 1pm on weekdays are dispatched the same working day. At weekends, the cut-off is 11:30am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Does Ogden Fulfilment have a minimum order volume?
No. Ogden works with no minimum order volumes, which makes it an option for growing brands as well as established ones.
Can I visit the warehouse before signing?
Yes, and you should do this with any fulfilment company you are considering. Seeing the site where your stock will be held is the most reliable way to judge an operation.
